Procedure of the lesson:
I. Introduction
T: Good morning, dear students and guests. Glad to see you. Today we’ll speak about health because it is the most important thing for people of our planet nowadays.
Phonetic exercises:
T: What English proverbs do you know about health? Please, remember their Kazakh equivalents.
S.1: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
S.2: Егер күнде алма жесен, денсаулығын мықты болады.

II. Warming up
Make up the cluster on the blackboard.
T.: There are some problems, factors which are closely connected with the state of our health. Some destructive factors can ruin people’s health. What are they?
(T. makes a diagram with the help of students)
S.1: People depend on the natural world. Air and water pollution, nuclear pollution, littering can cause diseases.
S.2: Plants and animals maintain the chemical balance of the atmosphere. Without a variety of species people can’t live. So we must save endangered species.
S.3: People, having bad habits, i.e. smoking, drugs, drinking alcohol ruin health too. 5 min.
III. Listen, write and discuss
T: Now let’s start with the problem of illnesses.
1. Listen to the text and fill in the blanks, please.
Text «Tim Takes Medicine»
It is winter now and John is ill. He is coughing; he has a terrible h- and feels a p- in his chest. The doctor came yesterday. He felt the boy’s p- and listened to his l-. He touched John’s head and immediately gave him some m-. The doctor told John to stay in bed and take the medicine r- 3 times a day.
Now there is a bottle of medicine on John’s table near his bed. But John doesn’t like the medicine and doesn’t want to take it. «What shall I do?» he thinks. «What shall I do not to take the medicine?»
Suddenly he remembers Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and his cat. John read the book about them last summer. So John gets out of his bed, takes his big black cat Tim and gives him his medicine. Tim likes the medicine and begins to drink it. But at the moment John’s mother comes into the room. She sees John, Tim and the bottle of medicine. She understands everything. «Don’t be silly, John,» she says. «You should drink the medicine, not the cat. You are ill, the cat isn’t. But the cat may feel bad because of the medicine. You shouldn’t give it to Tim. Be a good boy, take a spoon of the medicine and try to sleep.»

2. Change the sentences into Reported Speech:

3. T: Please, say some words about the story. I want you to give a short summary of the text. 7 min.
IV. Work in groups

T: Here are some factors destroying our health.
(T. puts 3 titles on 3 desks)

Take cards, please. Guess and match them with these titles and choose the group you’ll work in. (T. switches on the music. All students stand up, take cards and join the group according to the words and phrases on their cards.)

I. Bad habits:
- a) Drinking these liquids destroys health. Drunkers make harm to themselves and their families.
b) It is very dangerous and forbidden. But some men, even teenagers do it. They ruin their health at once. They can’t stop.
c) People, doing it, cough and have yellow teeth.
II. Illnesses:
- a) I’ve got a terrible headache.
b) I’ve caught an awful cold.
c) I’ve a toothache.
III. Destruction of environment:
- a) Tons of oil are dumped into water bodies every year. Water is not drinkable.
b) Animals in danger
c) Dirty air 2 min.
Tasks of the groups:
- The first group, please, act out dialogues «A visit to the doctor».
- The second group will present your projects «Bad habits». You had to prepare them at home.
- The third group will discuss the problem «Destruction of environment» in a role play. Choose a journalist, a doctor and an ecology specialist.
I’ll give you 3 minutes to get ready. 4 min.
Presentation of the group work
1) T: (addressing the first group) Now you are welcome with your dialogues «A visit to the doctor». We have doctor’s clothes. So, one of you can dress as a doctor.

T: It’s the turn of the last group. Discuss the problem of destructive activities, harmful for our health. Role play.
