In the Middle Ages, the name university was awarded to any group or association created to protect the common interests of groups of people. The word university translated from Latin means the totality, community. Therefore, the first universities created for educational purposes were only associations created in order to protect the rights of teachers and their students, since they did not have their own buildings for classes, they rented them.

Over time, they began to build special buildings, secured rights, charters and became permanent institutions. Currently, there are many educational institutions that have the title of the very first university, but this does not mean the quality of knowledge and KazNU after al-Farabi is the excellent example of it which became the dream of many graduates.

After all, al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the only number of universities in Central Asia took 207 place in the international QS ranking «World University Rankings» among the top 800 universities. This group from the post-Soviet space included only two universities: KazNU and Moscow State University named after Lomonosov (RF).

I think our main value is our huge library with a millionth book stock. I am proud that KazNU is my Alma Mater, which gave me a bachelor’s, master’s and soon Ph.D.

I believe that students and graduates of KazNU, participating in world-class knowledge and sports competitions, will contribute to the development of our country and the whole world.
